Introducing the Wood Buffalo Age-Friendly Work Plan 2021-2024
As Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo’s population ages, the Municipality along with the Advisory Committee on Aging (ACoA), and community partners are making a commitment to shape the region as an age-friendly community.
What is an age-friendly community?
An age-friendly community works to enhance the quality of life as people age to help seniors live safely, enjoy good health and stay involved.
What is an age-friendly work plan?
The Age-Friendly Wood Buffalo Work Plan 2021-2024 highlights goals and strategies to achieve ACoA’s vision of aging with dignity in Wood Buffalo. - Housing
- Transportation
- Community supports and health Services
- Social participation
- Affordability and accessibility

Advisory Committee on Aging (ACoA)
This work is being led by the ACoA. This Council appointed committee gathers public input and makes strategic recommendations to Council regarding service delivery for seniors. In late 2015, the ACoA and its partner agencies hosted a series of engagements to capture public input towards the Committee's vision of Aging with Dignity in Wood Buffalo.
With Council approval, the ACoA is working towards the Municipality receiving WHO’s designation for an age-friendly community.
