Planning and Development provides update on internal review project
Planning and Development presented 92 recommendations to strengthen internal processes at the Sept. 27 Council meeting.
Planning and Development outlined that the recommendations will support the development of processes that are business friendly, ensuring permits, business licences and safety codes inspections, among others, are streamlined and easier for residents and business to navigate.
What is the process review?
In alignment with the Government of Alberta’s priority of reducing red tape, Planning and Development engaged a third-party consultant to conduct an objective review of department services, while considering community and business feedback. The Wood Buffalo Development Advisory Committee also provided support and feedback.
The 92 recommendations have been developed with the goal of:
- Supporting economic activity
- Providing exceptional customer service
- Streamlining steps and processes
- Increasing stakeholder confidence
The implementation of these recommendations will directly support one of Council’s values in their recently approved strategic plan: local economy.
“We see this project as a kick-starter for continuous improvement,” said Brad McMurdo, director of Planning and Development. “You can expect to see changes on our website, in our processes and how we interact with our customers and business community over the long term.”
