The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo is pleased to announce that Jody Butz has been appointed as Interim Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), effective immediately. Butz steps into the role following the departure of Henry Hunter.
Butz brings extensive municipal experience to the position, having served as Fire Chief since 2017, Director of Emergency Management, and as a member of Regional Emergency Services for the last 24 years. His dedication to public service and deep understanding of the region positions him well to lead the organization during this transition.
Mayor Bowman expressed confidence in Butz's leadership and acknowledged the contributions of municipal staff:
"Chief Butz knows the region and what matters to the community. His experience and dedication make him well-suited to guide the organization. Under his leadership, I am confident we will maintain a focus on organizational stability and continue delivering the level of service that residents expect and deserve. I also want to sincerely thank our staff at all levels for their hard work and commitment to the region through the excellent work they do every day.”
Butz affirmed his commitment to supporting staff and ensuring the delivery of sustainable municipal services:
"It is an honour to step into this role and lead a dedicated team of employees at all levels. My focus will be on creating organizational stability, supporting employees, and ensuring we continue to deliver sustainable municipal services and programs that residents expect, and rely on. I look forward to working alongside Council, staff, and the community to advance these shared priorities.”
