The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo has officially withdrawn the 120-day notice previously issued to the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 1505 (CUPE 1505). This decision, effective immediately, was made following productive discussions held over the past two days between the CUPE Executive and the employer representatives.
Originally issued on February 29th, 2024, under Appendix J of the collective agreement, the notice was a standard procedural step in anticipation of potential workforce adjustments. However, in light of recent collaborative dialogues, both parties have demonstrated a mutual commitment to work together in identifying and implementing efficiencies across the municipality's operations.
The employer wishes to underscore that this withdrawal does not inherently guarantee that there will be no future impact on the workforce. Nevertheless, this gesture is intended to reaffirm the employer's dedication to a collaborative approach with CUPE 1505, especially in advance of the scheduled workshops designed to explore avenues for efficiency and improvement.
CUPE 1505 is expressing a willingness to engage constructively with the employer to enhance operational effectiveness while continuing to support a workforce that is essential to delivering vital public services. It is of the utmost importance for us to continue with our working groups so we can meet with the Employer with viable solutions to protect our workforce and community.
This development marks a significant step towards a cooperative working relationship between the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo and CUPE 1505. Both parties are dedicated to working together to ensure the continuation of efficient and sustainable public services.
