The La Loche Winter Trail is open to light vehicles less than 5,000 kg as of noon, Jan. 6.
Load limits will be increased as soon as it is safe to do so, and all changes will be formally announced. Vehicles heavier than the posted load limit using the winter road will be subject to serious fines and penalties.
Slow down! Winter road safety tips
- Stay on the right-hand side of the road, especially on hills.
- All heavy vehicles, such as fuel trucks and semi-trailers, require a permit to use the winter road. Please submit a permit application as soon as possible to prevent any delays. Find more information on permits and other important details in the Heavy Vehicle Information Package.
- Review the Winter Road Safety Tips before travelling.
Drivers are reminded to be cautious, as posted signage may not be in place for every hazard along the route, and to always be aware of crews and equipment working on the road. Speeding on the winter road is extremely dangerous, especially at river ice crossings.
