
RMWB Council allocates funds to Centre of Hope, Salvation Army, Wood Buffalo Wellness Society and YMCA of Northern Alberta
(Fort McMurray, AB – April 29, 2022) – At the April 26, 2022 council meeting, the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo’s (RMWB) council voted to allocate $5,071,945 to local non-profits under the 2022-2023 Community Plan on Homelessness Grant. The RMWB receives funding from the federal and provincial governments to support homelessness initiatives in the region.
Grant breakdown
Four non-profit organizations applied for a total of twelve different programs with requests totaling $5 million. The 2022-2023 Community Plan on Homelessness grants allocation is:

Homelessness Initiatives Strategic Committee (HISC)
The Homelessness Initiatives Strategic Committee (HISC), with representation from United Way, Wood Buffalo Housing, Industry, Indigenous communities, Landlords and Alberta Health Services, reviews the grant applications to ensure alignment with identified priorities and funding criteria, and makes recommendations to the RMWB council. HISC is an action-focused group that stewards and advocates for the community plan on homelessness.
