Update on Wildfire MWF-009
Air and ground suppression efforts are effectively managing wildfire MWF-009. The estimated size is approximately five hectares. Fire behaviour has dissipated, and the effectiveness of suppression efforts means that an evacuation order will not be issued today. The evacuation alert remains in place, as a precautionary measure.
Alberta Wildfire is the lead agency on this fire, and have three helicopters completing bucketing operations, and several wildland firefighters working to control the fire.
Air and ground suppression efforts will continue tomorrow morning, and information updates will be shared with the community at regular intervals.
The next update will be provided on Wednesday, May 3 in the morning.
A fire restriction continues to be in effect for most of the Wood Buffalo region. The dry conditions, warming temperatures and forecasted periods of high winds continue to elevate the wildfire risk. Everyone must use caution when working or enjoying the outdoors during this time.
