Fire behaviour was calm overnight and the wildfire MWF-009 is currently classified as being held. Alberta Wildfire is continuing with air and ground suppression efforts today. At this time, there is no immediate risk to the nearby communities of Anzac, Gregoire Lake Estates and Fort McMurray First Nation #468. Anyone in these areas should still be alert, continue to follow instructions from emergency officials and keep a safe distance away from operations.
Community members can expect smoke to be present today as suppression efforts continue. Anyone experiencing symptoms such as increased coughing, throat irritation, headaches and shortness of breath due to wildfire smoke and air quality, can call Health Link at 811 for assistance.
Air quality is closely monitored, with stations throughout the region. Find up-to-date information on air quality events and advisories on the Government of Canada’s Air Quality Health Index and the Wood Buffalo Environment Association Monitoring Map or their mobile app.
Alberta Wildfire is the lead agency on this fire. Find up-to-date information on the status of this wildfire on Alberta Wildfire’s Interactive Map and in the Fort McMurray Forested Area Updates. This information is also available on the Alberta Wildfire app.
To report wildfires in the forested area, call 310-FIRE (3473).
A fire restriction continues to be in effect for most of the Wood Buffalo region. The dry conditions, warming temperatures and forecasted periods of high winds continue to elevate the wildfire risk. Everyone must use caution when working or enjoying the outdoors during this time.
