At this time, there is no immediate risk to the nearby communities of Anzac, Gregoire Lake Estates and Fort McMurray First Nation #468. Anyone in these areas should still be alert, continue to follow instructions from emergency officials and keep a safe distance away from operations.
MWF-009 fire has been remapped since its initial detection and is being held at 16 hectares. It is not growing in size, and this accurate measurement is a result of remapping since its detection.
There may be some local smoke in the area, but winds are forecasted to be out of the south / southeast, pushing smoke away. Anyone experiencing symptoms such as increased coughing, throat irritation, headaches and shortness of breath due to wildfire smoke and air quality, can call Health Link at 811 for assistance.
The fire danger level in the Fort McMurray Forest Area was increased today, May 3, from High to Extreme. A fire restriction continues to be in effect for most of the Wood Buffalo region. The dry conditions, warming temperatures and forecasted periods of high winds continue to elevate the wildfire risk. Everyone must use caution when working or enjoying the outdoors during this time.
Air quality is closely monitored, with stations throughout the region. Find up-to-date information on air quality events and advisories on the Government of Canada’s Air Quality Health Index and the Wood Buffalo Environment Association Monitoring Map or their mobile app.
