Regional Emergency Services is pleased to again invite to the community to a free pancake breakfast and fire hall open house featuring lots of fun and interesting activities.
Tours, obstacle course, pancakes, and more!
On Saturday, Sept. 14, from 9 a.m. until noon at Fire Hall 1 (Hawkins Hall, 2 Tolen Drive), breakfast will be served. The morning will have something for everyone – including rescue demonstrations, tours of emergency services equipment, fire trucks, and an interactive fire safety trailer.
Children can enjoy time with Sparky and other local mascots, try their hand at using a full-size fire hose, and even take part in a fire rescue obstacle course. If they bring a special stuffed friend, a paramedic will even perform a teddy bear checkup.
Fort McMurray Fire Department marking 50th Anniversary
This year’s event is made more special as the department is celebrating its 50th anniversary.
1974 was a foundational year for the FMFD with the positions of Fire Chief and Deputy Fire Chief elevated to full-time and with the hiring that July of the first full-time paid firefighter.
The department’s storied history is an immense source of pride for the community, as well as for past and current department members.
Local emergency services organizations and partners involved
The breakfast involves many Regional Emergency Services representatives and partners –from the Fort McMurray Fire Department, RMWB Bylaw Services, the RCMP, Phoenix Heli-Flight/Local HERO Foundation, RES Fire Prevention Branch, FireSmart, Fort McMurray Search and Rescue Society, the Salvation Army, Alberta Agriculture and Forestry, RES Emergency Management, and more.
Free public parking for the breakfast will be available at Fort McMurray Composite High School and Keyano College parking lots. A free shuttle service from the parking lots to the fire hall will be available. Parking will also be available at Fort McMurray Heritage Village.
