Students across Wood Buffalo will return to class next week, and Bylaw Services is reminding drivers to pay extra attention as neighbourhoods will be busy with activity.
“Bylaw Services will be seen frequently in school zones in Fort McMurray, monitoring safety, speed and parking. Always watch for students and bicycles, follow all signage and drive distraction-free.”, said Aaron Anderson, Bylaw Services Manager.
Be prepared for extra traffic
Expect increased vehicle and pedestrian traffic on the road during peak times. Pay attention to children using bikes, scooters and skateboards and scan between cars in busy areas around schools.
Know the signs
- School Zone: 30 km/h during 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on all school days.
- School bus stop sign: when the red lights are flashing and the school sign is displayed, do not pass the bus. When yellow lights are flashing, be prepared to stop.
- Fire lane: don’t park in fire lanes, even if it’s just for a quick drop-off. This blocks emergency vehicles.
