Take the survey and enter to win!
The development of a new Solid Waste Management Plan (SWMP) is underway. The plan will guide how waste is managed, help divert waste from landfills and reduce waste across the region. Share your thoughts by taking the survey and attending one of the virtual presentations scheduled for October.
More talk, less trash
Each year, approximately 85,000 metric tonnes of garbage is sent to landfills in Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo. This equals about 1,000 kilograms of garbage per person. Waste composition studies show that over 70 per cent of that garbage can be recycled or composted.
Guided by Council’s Strategic Plan for 2022-2025, the SWMP will act as a 15-year business plan to expand and enhance services, manage costs, reduce waste, extend the life of existing landfills and contribute to protecting the environment.
Your feedback on current recycling and garbage collection services and potential future options will provide valuable insight and help shape the development of the new plan.
Weigh in and win!
Complete the survey by October 31 and enter for a chance to win one of five $100 gift cards to the Peter Pond Shopping Mall. Contest winners can also choose an optional tour of the municipal landfill facility and take home a Green Cone - an in-ground digester that accelerates the decomposition of food and pet waste.
