Crews will start the annual Snye dredging on Monday, August 12. Construction fencing will be installed around the site and Snye Point will be temporarily closed.
Why dredging is necessary:
The mouth of the Snye fills with sediment deposits (silt) brought by the current of the Clearwater River. Each year, this silt is dredged (removed) from the river to maintain access between the channel and the Clearwater River.
Snye dredging timelines:
- The contractor will be setting up fencing at the work site between August 12 to August 16. Access to the boat launches remains open during this time. However, water levels are currently very low and there is limited access from the boat launches to the Clearwater River due to the buildup of sediment. Boaters are encouraged to use other boat launches until dredging is complete.
- The actual dredging operation will take place between August 19 to August 23 and water access will be restricted.
- Excavators will be removing the sediment and placing it on Snye Point to allow it to dry before hauling it away. There will be no access to Snye Point for the duration of the operation. The expected completion date is September 15.
- Find more details about this work in the construction notice.
The parking lot next to the Snye Point will have limited or no access to parking until the project is complete. There will also be limited water access for small boats between the Snye and Clearwater River during dredging. Please follow all instructions from crews and signage in place.
