This afternoon, the court’s decision was to provide an interim injunction. I respect the decision of the Court.
This does not mean the Province is better at dispatching ambulances. It just means that this Provincial Government is willing to force us to comply.
My commitment to Wood Buffalo residents remains to provide a high-level of care and professionalism and prompt response.
The result of this extraordinary legal action by the Government of Alberta temporarily overturns a unanimous decision of a legally constituted municipal council. Most concerning, given recent experience, it will negatively affect patient outcomes in my Region.
Wood Buffalo has a proud history of resilience and solidarity, and in this unprecedented situation, I appreciate that the court of public opinion weighs heavily in our favour. I remain resolved to continue this fight in the courts of Alberta.
Mayor Don Scott,
Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo
