
The unofficial results for the 2024 Ward 4 byelection are in, and Stella Lavallee has been elected as Ward 4 Councillor for the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo.
The byelection results will be made official on Friday, Nov. 8, after the normal legislated period of time for candidates to request a recount has concluded.
“Thank you to all three candidates for putting their names forward and seeking to serve the community,” said Mayor Sandy Bowman.
“Congratulations to Councillor-elect Lavallee – we look forward to welcoming you to Council and continuing to work on the opportunities and issues of the people we represent.”
More than 32 per cent of eligible Ward 4 voters cast ballots in the byelection. A record 89 voters cast ballots at advance polls, up from the previous record of 73 in 2017.
Thank you to all voters who took the time and exercised their democratic rights in the 2024 Ward 4 byelection.

General election for RMWB Council set for Oct. 20, 2025
The Ward 4 Councillor-Elect is expected to be sworn in next week and begin their role right away. The general election for the RMWB will be held in October 2025. Lavallee will serve as Ward 4 Councillor until then and would have to win re-election to continue serving as Councillor.
