
(Fort McMurray, AB – June 7, 2021) – Anyone interested in being a candidate for the 2021 municipal election is encouraged to take part in upcoming information sessions this month.
The live online sessions will be hosted by RMWB Returning Officer Darlene Soucy. After a short presentation, participants will be provided an opportunity to ask questions.
The virtual information sessions will focus on two topics, Nominations and Campaigning, and will be held as follows:
- June 16 at 6:30 p.m. (Topic: Nominations)
- June 23 at 6:30 p.m. (Topic: Campaigning)
A link to the live sessions will be provided on the RMWB website at rmwb.ca/elections. The sessions will also be recorded and posted to the website.
Voters across the province will go to the polls for 2021 municipal and school board elections on October 18, 2021. The nomination period began on January 4, 2021 and the deadline to file is noon on Nomination Day, September 20, 2021.
There are 11 positions on the RMWB Council: Mayor, who is elected at large, and 10 Councillors, who are elected under a ward system as follows:
- Ward 1 (Fort McMurray) - 6 Councillors
- Ward 2 (Fort Chipewyan, Fort Fitzgerald, Fort McKay) - 2 Councillors
- Ward 3 (Draper, Saprae Creek Estates) - 1 Councillor
- Ward 4 (Anzac, Conklin, Gregoire Lake Estates, Janvier) - 1 Councillor
