Volunteer and float registration open for annual Santa Claus Parade

Email icon Back to News

Help bring the magic of Christmas to Wood Buffalo. Volunteer and float registration is now open for the annual Santa Claus Parade on Dec. 1.

“It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Wood Buffalo’s beloved family tradition is back and will once again bring our community together through the magic of Christmas,” said Alexis Foster, Community Committee member. “Community involvement is what makes the Santa Claus Parade so special. Last year, over 28 volunteers and 50 floats participated, with thousands of spectators lining Franklin Avenue to ensure Santa had a warm welcome. We encourage all residents to get involved again this year.”

The Municipality is partnering with a Santa Claus Parade Community Committee to help spread the festive spirt by hosting a variety of events over the holiday season. The committee consists of the Northern Lights Health Foundation, Peter Pond Shopping Mall and the Fort McMurray Chamber of Commerce. Residents can look forward to events such as, Festival of Trees, Elf Workshop, Breakfast with Santa and much more.

This year, the theme of Wood Buffalo’s holiday festivities is the Magic of Christmas. The Santa Claus Parade Community Committee is encouraging all parade floats, businesses, and residents to keep the theme in mind when decorating for the holidays.

Float registration closes Nov. 21 and volunteer registration closes Nov. 30.
