Held every two years, the Arctic Winter Games is the premier circumpolar sport and cultural event for youth. Originally planned for 2022, a decision was made in March to postpone the Games to 2023 to ensure the health and safety of all the participants, coaches, volunteers, staff, spectators, and the host community.
The Wood Buffalo 2023 Arctic Winter Games will be held January 29 – February 4, 2023. It is set to include athletes from the Northwest Territories, Yukon, Nunavut, Alaska, Greenland, Russia (Yamal), Nunavik (Northern Quebec), Northern Alberta and the Indigenous people (Sami) of Norway, Sweden and Finland.
The Games will host up to 2,000 participants and will require an equal number of volunteers.
