Waterfront construction to improve flood mitigation and Snye Point Park

snye

Construction projects along the waterfront will support future flood mitigation efforts and help enhance Snye Point Park. As part of the Waterfront Park Revitalization Project, Snye Point Park—located on the east side of Hardin Street—will be closed from June 9 to Nov. 15, 2025, for the first phase of construction. Phase two will start in 2026.

Planned improvements to enhance the waterfront experience include:

  • Upgraded pathways for walking, cycling and easier access
  • Enhanced landscaping to create a more beautiful and welcoming natural space
  • Celebration and welcome circles designed for gathering and community events
  • New benches, bike racks and tables for convenience and comfort.

“The revitalized waterfront will be a vibrant, year-round destination,” says Elliot White, Director of Project Delivery & Facilities. “The Snye is an important gathering place for the community, and while construction may cause some temporary disruptions, these improvements will make the waterfront even more functional, welcoming and enjoyable for years to come.”

See the construction notice for project details. Please follow all posted signage.

Additional waterfront construction impacts:

  • The Snye Point parking lot will be closed to support the Waterfront construction activities, however the Bernard Jean boat launch ramps, floating docks, and the adjacent parking lot at the end of Hardin Street / Morimoto Drive will continue to be open, as will the waterfront trail beside Morimoto Drive that connects to Borealis Park.
  • Starting in July, the intersection of Hardin Street and Clearwater Drive will be closed for flood mitigation works. During this time access to the Bernard Jean parking lot will be facilitated through a temporary detour via the Haxton Centre parking lot at the end of Morrison Street. Even with this detour in place, please be advised that there may be temporary disruptions and access restrictions.
  • For paddlers and floaters, the floating docks and boat ramps will continue to be accessible as a means to get in and out of the Clearwater River at the Snye. In the event of access restrictions to the Bernard Jean parking lot, the walking trail to the Morimoto Parking lot will continue to be open. Please remember to always have a personal floating device (life jacket) with you while on the water.
  • Reach 3 flood mitigation and underground enhancements will impact the Father Mercredi parking lot. Remediation work will also see the lot temporarily closed for construction.
  • Hardin St. raising (flood mitigation) will affect Morimoto Dr., Hardin St and Clearwater Dr. Alternate access to the Justin Slade Youth Foundation will be available.
