The Waterfront Park is once again engaging, however this time showcasing the concept design. The design incorporates feedback heard from recent engagement creating a welcoming community space with diverse features. The design enhances existing natural elements, creates various community gather spaces, improves water access and connectivity to our downtown, and recognizes the region’s Indigenous heritage.

Public engagement is open until Sunday, September 12, 2021 with several ways to provide your feedback.

Pre-registration is encouraged for the open houses, however not mandatory. The project team will be supporting pop-up activations at numerous community locations, keep your eyes on social media for where to find them!
Engagement themes
This past June residents, stakeholders, and Indigenous partners were engaged on design ideas and preliminary concept designs for the Waterfront Park. A detailed What We Heard Report is available online providing survey results, overall themes, and participation numbers. Some overall themes include truth and reconciliation, ability to touch the water, seating, recreational opportunities, and floodplain infrastructure.
Project background
The design covers 6km of Waterfront from the Athabasca Bridge to Horse Pasture Park in Waterways. The Waterfront Park is part of the overall Waterfront Park Revitalization Project which is divided into two targeted areas including the Waterfront Park, and the Snye Point Outdoor Event Space. The Waterfront Park Revitalization Project is a priority in the Municipality’s 2018-2021 Strategic Plan.
