Winter Maintenance Subzones 1 & 2 active Jan. 11 – 15

Winter Maintenance Zones

Crews are removing snow along the sides of streets and congested areas

Winter Maintenance Subzones 1 & 2 are active Jan. 11 to 15. This means that on-street parking restrictions are in effect from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on residential streets in these subzones. Crews are focusing on removing snow along the sides of streets and congested areas.

Subzones 3 & 4 are relaxed until further notice. When zones and subzones are relaxed, on-street parking restrictions are not in effect and vehicles may park on the street.

Why are the snowbanks bigger this winter?

This winter season, windrows from the ends of driveways are being removed or relocated, which means this snow may be placed on snowbanks along the sides of streets. When there is limited snow on the road, crews frequently remove snowbanks in active WMZs. Last winter, snow plowing occurred regularly, and removal was only done once on residential streets.

When possible, community members are asked to park as close as they can to snowbanks to maximize the width of neighbourhood streets. Residents may remove snowbanks as long as the snow is not placed back on the street.

Crews rely on your support to clear neighbourhood streets

To keep residential streets safe and accessible, crews rely on your support moving your vehicle off the road when your subzone is active so snow and ice can be cleared. Vehicles parked in active WMZs slow down progress and result in areas in your neighbourhood being missed.

Help clear a path through winter by keeping up with on-street parking restrictions, planning ahead for parking to avoid being ticketed and towed, and sharing the status of WMZs with neighbours, roommates and family members.

For everyone’s safety, please do not approach equipment on the roadway and exercise caution where maintenance is happening. Motorists are advised to follow road equipment from a safe stopping distance and to allow space for visibility.
