Shootout on the Snye, family-friendly activities and for 2024: special guests, Barbegazi!
Join us for some WinterPLAY fun from Feb. 23 to March 3 at the Snye and Borealis Park. There will be lots of exciting, outdoor activities to enjoy with your family, friends and neighbours.
Event hours:
- Feb. 23, 5 to 9 p.m.
- Feb. 24, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
- Feb. 25 – March 2, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- March 3, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Free activities for family and friends to enjoy
There are so many unique things to see and do at WinterPLAY! A variety of local food options will be available in the Snack Shack and there will be lots of fun, free activities to enjoy, including:
- Shootout on the Snye
- Kicks off at 9:45 a.m. on Feb. 24 and runs until Feb. 25
- Barbegazi winter sports events
- Leisure skating on the Snye and Borealis Pond
- Dog sled rides
- Horse drawn wagon rides
- Ice sculptures
- Fireworks
- Feb. 23 at 7:30 p.m. at Snye Point
All activities are first come, first serve except for leisure ice skating. The ice rinks located on the Snye must be booked for leisure skating and will be available from Feb. 26 to March 3, after the Shootout on the Snye is finished. Borealis Pond does not need to be booked and is open throughout the event for leisure ice skating.
Booking options for ice rinks will be available at noon on Tuesday, Feb. 20 at rmwb.ca/WinterPLAY.
New for 2024: Barbegazi
Experience Barbegazi, a high-octane, family-friendly winter sports event. Professional athletes will be showing off their skills at the sled demonstrations on Feb. 23 (7–7:30 p.m.) and Feb. 24 (2–2:30 p.m. and 7–7:30 p.m.) Other Barbegazi events at WinterPLAY will run from Feb. 24 to March 3 and include:
- Human curling
- Giant sling shot
- Fat bike course
- Snowskate Park
Snye closures and construction
As event construction for WinterPLAY continues, please be advised of the following:
- Access to the lower parking lot at Snye Park will be restricted from Feb. 12-March 8.
- Starting Feb. 12 access to the point is restricted with local residents maintaining access to their homes. On Feb. 23, access will be restricted to everyone due to the fireworks.
- Residents may still access the Clearwater River via the Raphael Cree Boat Launch and Tom Weber Boat Launch off Saline Creek Drive in Waterways.
Please continue to use caution, follow all posted signage, and stay clear of barricaded areas, construction crews and equipment. Construction areas are clearly marked and monitored to ensure public safety.
