Saline Creek Pedestrian Bridge

Lighting the Saline Creek Pedestrian Bridge celebrates and helps build community spirit in our region. With a unique steel arch supporting the suspended concrete deck, the bridge provides a key crossing over the Hangingstone River. The bridge is located on Saline Creek Drive near the intersection with Prairie Loop Boulevard.

To reflect the diversity of people that call Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo home, and our connection to the global community, the Municipality proactively lights the Saline Creek Bridge recognizing major events and cultural celebrations.

Submit a bridge lighting request

Do you want to raise awareness or generate support for an initiative? Submit a bridge lighting request at least two weeks prior to the requested date to light the bridge. Requests are processed in the order in which they are received and are considered based on the following criteria:

  • Be of benefit or significance to local residents.
  • Be an initiative of the Municipality.
  • Be in alignment with a Mayoral proclamation.
  • The requesting organization/agency must be a recognized charitable and/or social profit organization.

The Municipality reserves the right to approve or decline lighting requests for the Saline Creek Pedestrian Bridge based on the above criteria. Additional criteria may be considered if deemed necessary.

Courtesy Flagpole at Kiyám Community Park

The courtesy flagpole at Kiyám Community Park is available to fly a community flag on a temporary basis to raise awareness of significant causes or events that benefit, enrich or honour the community and region. Examples of such uses include, but are not limited to:

  • Flag of a charitable or non-profit organization to raise awareness or generate support for an initiative or campaign.
  • To celebrate a special occasion or local achievement.
  • Flag of a local sports team on the occasion of a major accomplishment such as winning a league championship.

Request to be submitted at least two weeks in advance of the requested date to fly a flag where possible. Please note that it is the responsibility of the requestor to provide the flag at least three days in advance and ensure it is in good condition. Dimensions of the flag may vary but not exceed 3’ x 6’.

The Municipality reserves the right to approve or decline requests for use of the courtesy flagpole based on Council Flag Policy PRC-220.

Lowering of Flags at Half-mast

All flags at municipal facilities will be flown at half mast as required according to Council Flag Policy PRC-220. Half mast means a flag flying halfway up a mast or pole. It is a symbol of respect, mourning or distress.

Community members may request the lowering of flags for occasions such as the death of a prominent community member or other solemn occasion for the community.

The Municipality reserves the right to approve or decline requests for use of the courtesy flagpole based on Council Flag Policy PRC-220. Additional criteria may be considered if deemed necessary.
