Demolition Permits

Demolishing a structure in Wood Buffalo requires two permits:

  1. a development permit
  2. a building permit

Apply for permits through E-Permitting.

Development permits

Development permits are required for new projects, changes in the use of a property, or additions to existing structures. They address issues of community planning, bylaws, land use, image and compatibility.

How do I speed up the process?

  • Apply for a development permit prior to a building permit.
  • Carefully follow the application requirements lists to ensure the application is complete.
  • Ensure the correct fee is submitted with the application.
  • Provide all required documentation when submitting your plans.

Building permits

Building permits apply to demolitions, relocations, repairs or alterations to existing buildings and structures.

Building permits are designed to address life and safety issues of the occupants and users of those buildings or structures.
