Service Connection (Direct) permits are required to install the water, storm and or sanitary services from the home to the street connection for all urban and rural systems that are tied into a municipal service.
A Service Connection permit (Step) is required for all water and sanitary services that have a tank installed that accepts sewer or water and is connected to a municipal service, predominantly in the rural areas or smaller rural communities.
These permits are to be applied for by a recognized Private Sewage installer (PS ticket holder) or a certified plumbing contractor as well as a “trench contractor.”
Apply online through E-Permitting or by visiting Safety Codes at 9909 Franklin Avenue during regular business hours.

Timeline
Once a correctly completed application with all necessary documentation is received, the minimum turnaround time for a permit is three to five business days.
A service connection permit expires if the work has not started within 90 days of the issuance or if no work is carried out under the permit for a period of 120 consecutive days. Permits are good for a year if work is progressing.
