To help make Transit enjoyable for all our passengers we have some basic guidelines we would like everyone to adhere to:
1) No soliciting or loitering. This means either on a bus or at a terminal.
2) Do not vandalize any transit property. This includes buses and terminals or any other items on Transit property.
3) No smoking, drinking, or using of alcohol and drugs. The act of smoking or drinking as well as the use of alcohol and drugs on any transit vehicle or in a transit shelter is strictly prohibited. This includes the use of cannabis.
4) Respect the Transit Bylaw. There is a bylaw in place to help make the transit experience safe for all riders. Click here to view the Transit Bylaw No. 92/15.
5) Pay your fare. Please ensure you pay your fare. It helps us all ensure that we have one of the best transit services available.
6) Be courteous to your driver. They need to concentrate on operating the vehicle in a safe and professional manner. Please refrain from moving around in the bus while in motion and avoid talking to the driver when in motion.
7) Form an orderly line when boarding a bus. Do not budge or push.
8) Let passengers exit first. Whether it be at a bus stop or when the doors to a bus slide open, always let the passengers inside exit first before attempting to board yourself. Stand on either side of the doors to let passengers exit.
9) Exit from the rear door. You should always exit from the rear door of the bus whenever possible. Be attentive and allow any parents with strollers, disabled (especially those with wheelchairs) or seniors to exit a vehicle first.
10) The front seats are reserved. The front seats on all our transit buses are reserved for the elderly or those who require use of a wheelchair. Make room for them when they board. Offer your seat to an elderly patron if crowded.
11) Hold on to the handrails when standing inside a transit vehicle. Stand sideways parallel to the vehicle’s motion. This will largely prevent any unbalancing falls, for your own sake and the safety of others around you.
12) Stand clear of doorways while inside a transit vehicle. Do not block doors while inside a vehicle. This can create logjams and it disrupts the flow of passengers from entering and exiting in a safe manner.
13) Refrain from having loud conversations; talk softly and quietly. Not just with your friends and fellow passengers, but this also means loud conversations on your mobile phone. Set your phone onto vibrate if possible. Be considerate of other passengers.
14) Do not confront and argue with others. Make it a positive experience as much as possible. For your own safety, do not confront loud individuals. If there is a safety concern, call 9-1-1.
15) Remove your backpack inside a crowded vehicle. Think about how your belongings may obstruct someone. Don’t place bags or packages in the middle of an aisle or on an empty seat. Place your bag on your lap while traveling.
16) Nobody likes to get left behind; move to the rear of the bus. Please move to the rear of the vehicle to either sit or stand so we can ensure everyone gets a ride.
17) Do not litter. Whatever you bring onto public transit should also leave with you as you exit. Bring your trash with you and dispose of it properly into a trash can or recycling bin.
Please show courtesy to your fellow passengers. Everyone has the right to a safe, secure, and enjoyable transit experience.
