Properties in Fort Chipewyan are connected to municipal water and sewer lines but are not metered. Currently, residents are charged fixed fees for water and sewer services at rates that are not aligned with the bylaw. Moving forward, charges will follow the bylaw.
In the past, the municipality has not been consistent in enforcing utility payments in some rural areas. As a result, some Fort Chipewyan residents have been receiving water, sewer, and curbside collection services without being billed.

How to open a utility account
Residents have the following options to open utility accounts:

Online: Complete the form available at RMWB Utility Account Setup.

In-Person: Visit the Jubilee Building at 9909 Franklin Avenue in Fort McMurray, fill out the utility forms, and submit them via email to Water Billing at waterbilling@rmwb.ca

Property Ownership Requirement: Utility accounts will only be opened for property owners. Renters are not eligible to open utility accounts.
To avoid billing delays, applications are due by April 4, 2025. The first billing cycle will begin mid-April for an effective date of April 1, 2025.
