Back Alley Collection

Back Alley Collection Updates:

We’re making more improvements to waste collection and recycling. Crews will begin collecting bins from back alleyways for selected areas. These areas have been chosen to enhance safety, provide more room on public streets, and make waste collection easier for everyone.

Watch for a notice in the mail or on your bin

Please see the list below to see which back alleys will receive collection and when the new system will begin.

The RMWB has sent letters to residences identified for the change. As a reminder, crews will also be placing tags on the bins of residences identified for the change.

What you need to know

This change does not impact your collection schedule. This change only impacts where you’ll need to place your bin. If your residence is identified for the change, please place your bins in the back alleyway beginning on the effective date listed above.

If you already receive back alley collections, no further changes are needed. Please continue as usual.

How to place bins for back alley collection

  • Place the bins on your property either beside or in front of your garage, or at the edge of your rear service back alley, with the hinges and wheels facing your house/garage. Most bins have an arrow marked on the side of the bin pointing in the direction of the alley.
  • Position the bins at least 30 cm (1 foot) apart, and leave at least 1 metre (3 feet) between the edge of a bin to the nearest obstruction such as garages, fences, vehicles, snow banks or other objects.
  • Bins must be placed by 7:30 a.m. on your collection day.
