2019 Yard Waste Curbside Collection ends Oct. 18. 

Curbside yard waste collection is scheduled to end for the 2019 season on Oct. 18 or earlier, pending weather conditions.

Residents may also drop off yard waste free of charge at the landfill.

Christmas Tree Drop Off 2018/2019 - Finished for the season

Recycling your Christmas tree is easy. During the Christmas season, a number of sites will be set up throughout Fort McMurray to drop off your tree once the holidays are over. Please ensure that you remove the stand and all decorations before bringing it to any of the marked drop off sites. Dates and drop off sites will be announced as we approach the 2019/2020 season.

Pumpkin Drop Off - 2019

Residents may drop-off pumpkins from Nov. 1 - Nov. 10 in designated bins located at the Safeway downtown, Sobeys in Thickwood or the Independent in Timberlea. Residents can also drop off pumpkins at the landfill if the pumpkins are accompanied by other recyclables .The public drop off area at the landfill is able to receive yard waste at no charge year-round, seven days a week from 8:15 a.m. to 5:45 p.m.

Residents are asked to put yard waste into brown paper yard waste bags. When placing bags out for curbside collection, please put your bags at the curb next to your bins and not in the bins and ensure your waste is placed at the curb before 7:30 a.m. on your regularly scheduled collection day. Plastic and compostable plastic bags are not accepted.

The following can go in your brown paper yard waste bags:

  • Grass clippings
  • Leaves
  • Flowers
  • Weeds
  • Culled plants
  • Small twigs less than 30 centimetres (12 inches) long

Tips for disposing of yard waste:

  • Brown paper yard waste bags are required. The RMWB cannot process plastic or compostable bags as part of yard waste. 
  • Do not put kitchen food scraps, pet waste or non-organic garden waste such as broken plant pots in the bag.
  • Each household is limited to four bags of yard waste per week. (If extra bags are put out, the Municipality will issue a notification advising of the issue, and the extra bags will not be picked up.)
  • Yard waste bags must weigh under 16 kilograms (35 pounds)
  • Bags must be put out to the curb by 7:30 a.m. on the scheduled collection day.

Yard waste on municipal property

Residents are reminded it is not permitted to dump yard trimmings on to municipal property, like parks or public utility lots (PUL).  

All Winter Maintenance Zones are relaxed until further notice.
