Santa Claus Parade and Council's Starry Night: Rescheduled to Dec. 7!

Due to extreme cold, the parade has shifted to a drive-thru parade. Floats will be staged along Clearwater Dr. from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Spectators are encouraged to enter the parade route at the intersection of Franklin Ave. and Clearwater Dr., near Home Hardware. Spectators cannot enter the drive-thru parade from the intersection of Riedel St. And Clearwater Dr. Businesses along Riedel St. will continue to be accessible. 

Council’s Starry Night

Council’s Starry Night will proceed as scheduled at 5:00 p.m. at kiyām Community Park. Residents are invited to join Mayor and Councillors for a festive evening featuring holiday greetings, an Elder blessing, the lighting of the tipi and community tree, hot chocolate from The Salvation Army food truck, and seasonal music.

Residents are welcome to attend Council's Starry Night and then hop on a free transit bus from kiyam Community Park to view the drive-thru parade. The transit bus will bring people back to kiyam Community Park after the drive-thru parade.

Transit available for free

To ensure the event is accessible to everyone, free transit will be provided from Keyano (#1016). Buses will shuttle residents along the drive-thru route, offering a warm, reliable option. The trip will end opposite Keyano (#1017). Transit buses will operate beginning at 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on a 10-15 minute rotation.

Road closures in downtown Fort McMurray on Dec. 7

Plan your route ahead with the following lane and road closures:

  • No thru traffic from Hardin St. to Clearwater Dr.
  • No thru traffic from Father Mercredi St. to Clearwater Dr.
  • No right-hand turn from Main St. to Clearwater Dr.
  • No left hand turns from Riedel St. to Clearwater Dr. from 4:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m.
  • Clearwater Dr.: southbound lane closed and northbound lane reduced speed limit to 30 km/hr

Drivers should expect delays if travelling downtown the evening of Dec. 7.

Get ready to vote for your favourite floats

After the parade, remember to vote for your favourite floats! Community organizations with the best decorated floats will receive $1,000, either for their non-profit organization, or, in the case of commercial participants, a non-profit of their choice.

Watch for a QR code during and after the parade to vote for your favourite floats! 

Voting will open Dec. 7 at 5 p.m. and close at 11:59 p.m.

Absolutely, you can bring your kids! If your kid has written a letter to Santa, feel free to bring it along! Santa’s mailbox will be ready at Council’s Starry Night to send kids’ wish lists straight to the North Pole!

No, there is no cost to register a float in the Santa Claus Parade, but the deadline to register has already passed.

Yes, all vehicles registered in the parade are required to confirm insurance and organizations/businesses are required to provide a Certificate of Insurance.
