The RCMP is Canada's national police force, providing law enforcement services across the country. We contract the RCMP to provide police services to residents of Wood Buffalo.

Wood Buffalo RCMP consists of two detachments, Fort McMurray and Fort Chipewyan, providing general duty services as well as specialized units such as: Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team (ALERT), Community policing, Drugs section, Forensic identification, Investigative services, Police dog services, Traffic services and Victim services.

Payment is not accepted at this location and transactions can be completed with the cashiers at Jubilee Building.

 

For fingerprinting services, reporting of stolen items and any service that requires RCMP assistance, you must contact the Timberlea RCMP Detachment.

 

What's a non-emergency?

Non-emergencies:

  • Do not pose an immediate or potential threat to life or public safety.
  • Include crimes that have already taken place prior to being discovered.
  • Often do not require police attendance, but do require police response.

Examples include but are not limited to:

  • Minor motor vehicle collisions.
  • Break and enters that already took place.
  • Scams in which money or personal information was not transferred or provided.
  • Lost property.
  • Property damage under $5,000.
  • Theft under $5,000.

While these types of reports are important, they are not an emergency. 

Services and fees

If you require a criminal record check and/ or fingerprints, Wood Buffalo RCMP offers these services. Two pieces of identification are required for all services; one must be a valid government issued photo ID and the other only needs to have your name (same name as on your government issued ID). SIN cards cannot be accepted.

Volunteer (a letter from the non-profit organization including the letterhead, date, applicants name and a signature from someone in authority will exempt the fee)

  • Record Suspension/Waiver
  • Visa/Border Crossing/Foreign Travel/Work
  • Privacy Act Requests
  • Immigration (permanent residence, Canadian Citizenship, Sponsorship)
  • Adoption

Wait time

Two weeks to four months as these need to be sent away for validation.
