Engagement feedback defines community space
After engagement with residents, stakeholders, and Indigenous Partners the Snye Point Outdoor Event Space final conceptual design is available to view. The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo would like to thank participants for being an instrumental part of building a space reflective of the community. The space is designed to be an inclusive four-season waterfront, emphasizing natural elements while recognizing the region’s culture and heritage.
The project is part of the Waterfront Revitalization Project which has two targeted areas focusing on individual priorities including the Snye Point Outdoor Event Space and the Waterfront Park. The Snye Point Outdoor Event Space will include features such as pedestrian pathways, welcome circles, natural play, public washroom, tipi feature, additional parking, vendor opportunities, new docks, and a toboggan hill.

In March 2021, engagement requested residents to provide feedback on two preliminary concept designs. Residents expressed importance on vehicular access to Snye Point and water connectivity between park space and the Snye. Specific design elements support resilience and protection with the space being on a flood plain. The final design incorporates feedback heard throughout engagement.
A detailed What We Heard Report including overall themes throughout engagement can be found online. These included supporting truth and reconciliation, diverse pathways, accessibility for all, parking, water access, and vehicular access to Snye Point.
Construction is expected to start spring 2022. For more information visit rmwb.ca/waterfront.
