Using public transit in Fort McMurray just got easier, with live-tracking of buses now available through Google Maps.
Community members can use Google Maps to easily find and plan their routes, then follow their buses’ movements in real-time once they depart.
“This new live-tracking feature ensures that transit users have access to real-time information on route progress,” said Public Works Director Keith Smith. “Being able to easily plan trips and get live updates through Google Maps will improve transit service for existing riders and attract new ones too.”
Google Maps is easy to use!
Using Google Maps to plan transit trips, check delays and track bus progress in real-time is easy:
- Open or download the Google Maps app
- Click on the transit icon
- Choose the destination
- Nearby transit routes to the destination will automatically be displayed
- Select the preferred route
- Then follow the buses’ progress in real-time
A Google Maps user guide for RMWB Transit is available.
While Google Maps will show bus progress and delays, transit detours and missed routes will continue to be highlighted on the Municipal website and social media accounts.
Share feedback!
“We encourage all transit riders to use Google Maps and the live-tracking feature during their next trip,” said Smith. “While extensive testing has been done, resident feedback is essential to make sure the live Transit updates are serving the community as intended.”
