Registering your business address

All businesses in the region are required to have a registered civic address that aligns with current municipal standards.

A correct address ensures emergency services like police, fire and ambulance can locate your business quickly when it matters most. It also supports your business by:

  • Helping customers and clients easily find your business.
  • Ensuring continued mail delivery from Canada Post without disruption.
  • Preventing delays when applying for permits or renewing your business licence.

If you operate a home-based business, this requirement does not apply to you.

No. As soon as your address is registered with the RMWB, Canada Post will receive it the next business day.

No. Most businesses will be given a new civic address when they register. There are set standards and regulations for civic addresses that must be followed to ensure consistency and navigability of streets. This helps people find your business easier, including first responders.

Most unregistered business addresses are spaces within buildings that were turned into units over time following the initial construction, such as industrial bays. When a building like this was originally built, a single address was assigned to the property.

However, over time, property owners created and assigned their own addresses to units, which wasn't aligned with municipal standards and regulations.

We recognize that switching addresses can create short-term challenges for businesses. However, aligning all addresses with municipal standards and regulations ensures that emergency services, customers and third parties like Canada Post can access your business with minimal delays.
