Registering your business address

All businesses in the region are required to have a registered civic address.

A registered address ensures emergency services like police, fire and ambulance can locate your business quickly when it matters most. It also supports your business by:

  • Helping customers and clients easily find your business.
  • Ensuring continued mail delivery from Canada Post without disruption.
  • Preventing delays when applying for permits or renewing your business licence.

If you operate a home-based business, this requirement does not apply to you.

How do I check to see if my address is registered?

Check to see if your business address is registered:

If you enter your building’s parent address and see your unit number appear underneath, your business unit address is already registered.

If you enter your building’s parent address and your unit number does not appear, please register your address by following the steps below. This ensures it is included in the GIS system that informs Canada Post delivery, emergency services and mapping systems like Google.

No. As soon as your address is registered with the RMWB, Canada Post will receive it the next business day.

Yes. Existing addresses will be accepted, assuming they make sense to the site.

The requirement to follow municipal addressing standards will only be applied to new developments or for businesses with special circumstances.

Most unregistered business addresses are spaces within buildings that were turned into units over time following the initial construction, such as industrial bays. When a building like this was originally built, a single address was assigned to the property.

However, over time, property owners created and assigned their own addresses to units. As a result, some of these unit addresses are not registered with the Municipality.

Going forward, the RMWB will now accept existing addresses, saving businesses time and costs for changing addresses to align with the RMWB standard. However, these existing addresses still need to be registered.
