Mayor

Since being elected Mayor in 2021, Sandy Bowman has worked every day to honour the trust of Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo residents. A resident since 1993, small business owner, husband, and father, Sandy has faced the same challenges as the people he serves - the wildfire, the flood, the downturn, and the pandemic. Those experiences shaped his leadership and deepened his commitment to building a stronger, more resilient region.

Known for being approachable and always willing to help, Sandy listens, shows up, and acts with common sense and compassion. As Mayor, he has cut red tape for businesses, brought back local EMS dispatch, advanced flood protection, finalized a master land agreement, and invested in recreation and safer streets.

Looking forward, Sandy is focused on keeping jobs local, lowering utility costs, supporting seniors and youth, and revitalizing downtown - leadership rooted in people, not politics.

I’m Tiffany Bennett, and I am running for City Council because our community deserves bold leadership that listens, acts, and delivers lasting change.

For too long, people have felt unheard at City Hall. I will work to transform how our city governs itself by bringing greater transparency, accountability, and true accessibility. Every resident should know that their concerns matter, their voice is valued, and their input helps shape the future of our city.

Equally important is unity on council. Real progress cannot be achieved through division. It takes respect, collaboration, and a shared commitment to serve. When council members work together with integrity, the entire community benefits. Together we can find solutions that serve everyone, not just a select few.

This campaign is not just about me. It’s about us. Let’s build a government that truly reflects the people it serves and a community we are proud to call home.

Hello.  My name is Luana Bussieres, and I am running for municipal council because I believe local government should be about one thing above all else, the people.  Our community deserves leadership that listens, acts responsibly, and makes decisions that truly improve everyday life.

For nearly four decades, I’ve worked as a social worker and nonprofit leader, supporting families, seniors, youth, and vulnerable populations.  I have built partnerships, managed budgets responsibly, and delivered practical solutions that make a real difference in people’s lives.  I understand the value of collaboration, accountability, and putting people first.

On council, I will bring that same approach, thoughtful, steady leadership focused on outcomes that strengthen our community.  That means ensuring transparency, working respectfully with residents, local organizations, and all levels of government, and focusing on the basics that matter every day such as safe roads, reliable services, and strong programs for residents.

Mila Byron: Fiscal Focus, Community First

Mila Byron is a seasoned lawyer and former Ward 1 councillor (2007) with firsthand experience in municipal governance. She understands the RMWB’s distinct challenges—from its resource-driven economy and remote geography to its history of natural disasters —and believes smart leadership must be rooted in fiscal discipline and responsibility to residents.

Byron advocates for an efficient government that prioritizes essential services: fire, police, EMS, infrastructure, and roads and supports small business. Her approach ensures that budgets remain balanced, and taxpayer dollars are spent wisely. She sees municipalities not as bureaucracies, but as service providers accountable to the public.

Her leadership style is collaborative, transparent, and grounded in results. Byron’s commitment to responsible stewardship and community engagement makes her a trusted voice for sustainable growth and strong governance.

My wife and I raised our family here, and with our two children now living and working in Fort McMurray, I understand the challenges families face. Born and raised in Fort McMurray, I know what makes this community strong: our people. After surviving a stroke while pregnant, I became a voice for accessibility and inclusion across the region.

I’ve worked with nonprofits, small business owners, and families to identify gaps in services and push for real solutions. Whether it’s improving accessible transportation, cutting red tape for entrepreneurs, or finding creative ways to revitalise downtown, I believe in taking action over making empty promises.

As your councillor, I will listen, speak up, and fight for policies that make life better, especially for those who often go unheard. Fort McMurray deserves leadership that is honest, driven, and truly rooted here.

Let’s build a future where everyone has a seat at the table.

Hello everyone, my name is Michael Ferrara, and I’d be honoured to be your choice for Ward 1 councillor.

I’ve been in Fort McMurray for nearly 20 years. I met my wife here and we have made a beautiful life in this wonderful place we call the RMWB.

Some of you may recognize me as I have been quite vocal at council meetings the last couple years. I believe it is time that I stop just talking, and take a step forward.

Over the coming days, I hope to meet many of you, and unveil a platform that is both realistic and achievable. Realistic because I understand the limitations of being a single voice on a team, and achievable because my voice is strong. Please like, follow, and share my candidate page, I look forward to serving you.

Good Day Fort McMurray.

My name is KC Hutchins, and I’m proud to be a local girl running to be a Ward 1 Councillor.

I’ve grown up here, raised my family here, and adore our communities spirit and strength to

come together in times of need.

In 2017, I worked with the municipality for 3+ years to launch the Backyard Hens Pilot Project - an initiative that’s brought more sustainability, diversity, and health to our neighbourhoods. That experience taught me how collaboration and determination can lead to real progress.

Now, I’m ready to take that commitment further. I’m running to ensure our local interests are 1st. Improving community safety, enhancing school zone protections, creating a bike/scooter path, and expanding affordable programs for children, youth, and seniors.

Fort McMurray deserves a future shaped by the people that know it best. Let’s build that future together. Thank you for your support

I also serve on the Boards of the Nistawoyou Association Friendship Centre and the RMWB Diversity & Inclusion Committee, advocating for stronger community bonds, cultural awareness, and quality of life.

As a mother of three, I know the importance of a safe, supportive, and affordable community. If elected as Ward 1 Councillor, I will deliver transparent leadership and action on fair provincial funding, local business support, affordable housing, infrastructure and safety improvements, and emergency preparedness. Together, we can build a stronger, inclusive Fort McMurray that protects residents and plans boldly for the future.

My name is Nathalie Lefebvre, and I am running for Fort McMurray City Council, Ward 1.

My intent as City Councillor is to make Fort McMurray even more viable and enviable, through economic development with big oil and home-based businesses, supporting athletic endeavours, and further putting our schools on the map for excellence and innovation. Public safety, Veterans Affairs, healthcare, Waste and Land Management, Mental Health are just some more of the issues very close to my heart.

People and big projects are my jam. I earned a Project Management certificate at NAIT, and studied Anthropology (you guessed it; the study of humans!) at university. Fort McMurray has been my home for the last 11 years, where I’ve been working hard in one of the mines, and volunteering.

My name is Nathalie Lefebvre, and I ask for your vote for City Council in this 2025 municipal election.

Hi Fort McMurray, my name is Verna Murphy and I am running to be one of your councillors in Ward 1. I think great things are still to come for our region, but we need stability.

I want to help make sure that a new CAO is properly vetted, hired and retained. I also see local businesses being the backbone of our community.

We need to start putting ideas into actions so that more businesses do not have to close their doors.

I was on council from 2017 until 2021 and I was proud that I only missed one meeting and was always prepared during that time. I bring some experience to the position, but I am always willing to learn more.

Please go to my social media forums for more information about me and my platform. And please help me be elected on October 20th by voting Verna Murphy.

My name is Jared Sabovitch and I’m running for Ward 1 Council.
I believe our community needs both fresh energy and practical solutions. My priorities are straightforward: invest in local jobs, support small businesses, and protect public services so families here can thrive.

I know crime and safety are top concerns, but real solutions mean more than enforcement alone. We need programs that create opportunity — from youth supports and mental health services to job training and addiction recovery. By helping people get back on their feet, we build a safer, stronger, more resilient Wood Buffalo.

I’m committed to working with residents, local businesses, and council colleagues to build a community where people want to live, raise families, and stay long-term.

On October 20th, vote for Jared Sabovitch.

Dr. Uche-Ezeala Ij is a wife, mother, entrepreneur, award-winner, global-speaker, & compassionate community-leader,

I am running for city council because I’m grateful this community is my HOME — and I care deeply about its progressive growth.

My passion for service stems from my belief that decisions made at council must always prioritize the people. As a business owner, I understand both the challenges and opportunities within our community. I will support policies that promote the local economy, encourage incentives to fill empty storefronts, and eliminate red tape to encourage business growth.

The strength of our community lies in its workforce. To attract and retain human capital, I will promote initiatives that increase infrastructure to improve the quality of life, cultural amenities, and I will advocate for better healthcare access (including healthcare for animals).

In humility and willingness to serve you, allow me to represent your voice as your Ward 1 Councilor.

Hi, I’m Stu Wigle, and I’m running for re-election as your Ward 3 Councillor.

Over the past term, we’ve started some incredible work in Saprae Creek and Draper — but we’re not finished yet. I believe that great towns are built on the backs of strong families and thriving small businesses, and I want to keep building a community where both can flourish.

Too often, Saprae Creek and Draper are overlooked at budget time. I will continue to make sure our voices are heard and our needs are met.

As a husband and father of four boys, I care deeply about creating a future where families can grow, work, and play. That means building relationships with stakeholders, having the tough conversations, and working together to get results.

We are stronger together — let’s finish what we’ve started.
