Don Scott was raised in New Brunswick and holds Philosophy and Law degrees from the University of New Brunswick and a Master’s in Law from the University of Cambridge. He began his legal career in England as an assistant solicitor with the Bloody Sunday Inquiry, an investigation into the deaths of thirteen civilians, before returning to Canada to practice law in Fort McMurray. Don managed a local law firm, built a respected legal practice, and was appointed King’s Counsel in 2010.

For more than two decades, Don has been a committed community leader and volunteer. He served as President of the United Way of Fort McMurray and contributed to several boards, including the Legal Aid Appeal Board, Children First, the Northern Lights Health Region Ethics Committee, and the Royal Canadian Legion.

Don was elected to municipal council in 2010, served as a Bencher of the Law Society of Alberta, and later represented Fort McMurray-Conklin as a Member of the Legislative Assembly. As an MLA he held key roles such as Minister of Innovation and Advanced Education, and Deputy Government House Leader.
