Simons Lucas Park
589 Athabasca Avenue, Fort Mcmurray, Alberta Canada
Large playground located in Abasand, with covered picnic tables, basketball court and skateboard park across the street. Simons & Lucas Park was given its name in 2004 in honour of Norman Simons, Sigi Lucas and Rudy Lucas. In 1969, they developed the Abasand Neck into a ski hill and donated it to the Town of Fort McMurray for citizens to enjoy over the long winter months. The park (which was not yet completed when given this new name) was previously named the Abasand Neck Urban Park. The Community Identification Committee felt that naming the park in honour of these gentlemen was fitting, given the location of the park and the association of the area to the men who first developed it for citizens into a recreational ski hill.
