Who can apply? |
Many boards or committees have certain requirements to ensure the background of potential members would add value to the mix of current board skills and capabilities. For more information visit rmwb.ca/boards to see the description of our boards and committees. |
How can I apply? |
Applications will be accepted until 4:30 p.m. on April 30. Apply online at rmwb.ca/boards

How are members selected? |
Applications are reviewed by Mayor and Councillors once the deadline passes. Council looks to match individuals who have the skills, knowledge and expertise to the appropriate board or committee in addition to ensuring a good fit with existing board members. |
Are positions open to all residents in the Region? |
Positions are open to both urban and rural residents. Travel assistance is available for members who are required to travel to Fort McMurray from outlying communities. |
What is the length of board and committee appointments? |
On average each term is for two years and the number of consecutive terms available depends on the committee or board guidelines. |
When do new members start? |
Appointments will be effective starting May 2023. |
What are some examples of work that a Board or Committee influenced in 2022? |
The Communities in Bloom Committee: The Nominate Your Neighbour Program provides an opportunity for residents to recognize other residents for contributing to community beautification throughout the summer and winter months.
Public Art Committee: igNIGHT is a temporary public art exhibition championed by Public Art Wood Buffalo which aims to inspire public art initiatives that engage the interest and imagination of the general public using illuminated artworks at the heart of the exhibition.

Advisory Committee on Aging |
The Advisory Committee on Aging's mandate is to gather public input and make strategic recommendations to Council regarding service delivery for seniors. In late 2015, the ACOA and its partner agencies hosted a series of engagements to capture public input towards the Committee's vision of Aging with Dignity in Wood Buffalo. In addition to public engagement, the ACOA has, with Council approval, applied to the World Health Organization and began working toward the requirements for designation as an Age-friendly Community. |
Assessment Review Boards |
The Assessment Review Boards are quasi-judicial boards that are established to hear appeals regarding assessment notices and tax notices (other than property tax) and make decisions on these appeals in accordance with the provisions of the Municipal Government Act. Community Identification Committee |

Community Investment Program Advisory Committee |
This committee will review the Municipality's Community Investment Program and make recommendations to Council on improvements and enhancements. |
Communities in Bloom Committee |
Helping hands are always appreciated! The Communities in Bloom board coordinates and assists with Communities in Bloom activities and programs. |
Community Standards Appeal Committee |
The Community Standards Appeal Committee hears and adjudicates appeals by any person who has received an order under the Municipal Government Act or the Animal Control Bylaw. |
Fort McMurray Airport Authority |
The Fort McMurray Airport Authority is responsible to manage and operate the Fort McMurray Airport. As an authority under the Airport Authorities Act, it will operate at arms' length from the Municipality; however, the Municipality, as an appointer, has the responsibility to appoint three members to the Authority. |

Regional Recreation Corporation Board |

Subdivision and Development Appeal Board |
The Subdivision and Development Appeal Board is a quasi-judicial board, meaning its meetings are conducted in a court-like manner. Board members hear subdivision and development appeals and make decisions on these appeals in accordance with the provisions of the Municipal Government Act, statutory plans (Municipal Development Plan, Area Structure Plans and Land Use Bylaw), and Provincial and Council policies. |
Vehicle for Hire Committee |
The Vehicle for Hire Committee will make recommendations to Council on the Vehicle for Hire Bylaw and Schedule J of the Fees, Rates and Charges Bylaw No. 22/012, as amended or replaced. To provide a forum where stakeholders can bring forward ideas and concerns related to the Vehicle for Hire industry. |
Wood Buffalo Regional Library Board |

Wood Buffalo 2023 Arctic Winter Games Host Society |
When a municipality is awarded the right to host an Arctic Winter Games (AWG), it forms a Host Society to manage the event based on the terms of the hosting contract and the AWG Staging Manual. The Host Society will plan, develop and carry out all aspects of the 2023 Wood Buffalo Arctic Winter Games. |
