Saunderson Pressure Reducing Station

The Municipality is preparing to complete deep utility rehabilitations and upgrades in your neighbourhood. You’ll see crews and construction activity beginning as early as June 24, 2024 working on preparatory activities which will include staging of construction fencing, temporary water lines and traffic control measures. The work area is scheduled to be closed off to public traffic and pedestrians starting at 7:00am on Tuesday July 2, 2024.

Map:

Morrison Street and MacDonald Avenue Intersection Closure

Proposed start and end date:

July 2, 2024 to August 30, 2024

Contractor:

H. Wilson Industries (2010) Ltd.

Lead Department:

Project Management Office

Project Details/Background:

Construction will involve the removal of existing roadways and sidewalks to allow for the installation of new water, storm, and wastewater infrastructure. Temporary water services will be used to ensure water services to all businesses are uninterrupted in the project area while the new infrastructure is being installed. Once underground utility installation work is complete, revitalization of the surface will take place with new asphalt roadways, concrete sidewalks, curb and gutter, new street lighting and landscaping.

Community Benefit:

As the various phases of construction are completed, roads will be restored and improved. At the completion of the project, impacted downtown streets will see a substantial improvement. Once complete, underground infrastructure will improve the water supply to the downtown, as well as all areas in the south of the Urban Service Area (i.e. Saprae Creek Estates, Anzac, etc.).

Construction Impacts:

Driveway Interruption:

The existing driveway located on Morrison Street for the Fuel by Earls restaurant and Servus Credit Union bank will be closed due to the construction. Access to these properties will be maintained from the northern driveway located on MacDonald Avenue. Please follow posted detour signs to access these businesses.

Road or lane closure:

Morrison Street will be closed from Biggs Avenue to MacDonald Avenue. Access to Biggs Avenue from Highway 63 will be maintained. One left turn lane on Highway 63 southbound to turn onto Morrison Street will be closed to funnel traffic onto Biggs Avenue southbound.

Biggs Avenue and MacDonald Avenue northbound to access Morrison Street will be closed.

Sidewalk closure:

Sidewalks will be closed within the construction limits identified in the previous figure.

Temporary Water:

Temporary water will be setup along MacDonald Avenue north of Morrison Street to provide uninterrupted water services for businesses and apartments within the affected areas.

Transit:

Transit routes and stops along Morrison Street will be impacted. Alternate routes and pickup locations will be established.

Special Instructions for Residents:

Pedestrian and motorist access in the area will be restricted through the various stages of construction. Any restrictions planned will minimize access interruptions for residents and businesses in the project area. Access will be maintained at all times in the event of an emergency. Access to all businesses in the project area will be maintained to ensure business continuity. For your safety, and the safety construction crews, please keep away from heavy equipment, and obey all signage.

Signage will be staged for each phase of construction. Variable messaging signs will be in place to guide the public and workers. Roads will be closed as required, and detour signs will be in place to minimize delays. Please watch for messaging signs in the area as they will be updated regularly with information about any upcoming changes or disruptions.

All temporary water service hook ups will be removed once the project is completed and any modifications that were required to accommodate temporary water servicing will be restored.
