Human Resources

The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo is committed to being an employer of choice by valuing our people, safety and wellness, and excellence in rewards, compensation and recognition.

Unions and collective agreements

There are two unions representing the employees.

  1. The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) represents municipal employees and transit employees.
  2. The International Association of Firefighters (IAFF) represents firefighters and emergency medical services personnel.

The current collective agreements can be viewed below in PDF format:

The bargaining committees for the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo and CUPE Local 1505 met on July 30 and 31, 2025. There are approximately 900 employees in the CUPE Local 1505 bargaining unit, who work across a wide range of departments. They play a vital role in delivering municipal services in the region.

Both parties exchanged their ingoing bargaining proposals. Consistent with usual bargaining practices, the parties were able to agree on current language items, and some minor changes to the Collective Agreement.

The RMWB is committed to ensuring that you are kept informed throughout the bargaining process. Here is what you can expect from us this round of bargaining:

  • Updates at Key Milestones. We will share updates throughout the process, consistent with the legal rules governing communications.
  • A respectful and transparent process. We are committed to bargaining in good faith and communicating clearly and consistently with employees throughout the process.
  • Multiple channels for information.  Updates will be shared in email and posted on rmwb.ca/staff.

Collective bargaining is an important process, and we believe it is important that you stay informed throughout the process. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to forward them to Hr_requests@rmwb.ca. For CUPE 1505 employees, please feel free to email admin@cupe1505.ca.

Most positions are filled within six weeks.
