Celebrate National Indigenous History Month in the region

Indigenous culture and history will be honoured and celebrated throughout June in recognition of National Indigenous History Month (NIHM).

The month-long celebration will reflect the stories and achievements of Indigenous Peoples across the region and Canada.

Join us for Burgers and Bannock at the Island

Please join us for a community gathering to celebrate and commemorate National Indigenous Peoples Day at Shell Place on Friday, June 21.

The event is expected to run from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and will feature family-friendly activities, light entertainment and a lunch service.

It’s Time to Read in June: Richard Van Camp

Dive into Richard Van Camp’s comic book and film Three Feathers or take your little one to a reading of his children’s book Little You. An author and filmmaker, Van Camp is a proud Tłı̨chǫ Dene from Fort Smith, NWT.

  • A book review, film review and speaker panel on Three Feathers will be hosted at Landmark Cinemas from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 19.
    • Three Feathers tells the story of three young men returning to their community after being sentenced to 9 months living on the land in the N.W.T as part of a restorative justice program
  • Join us for a Mom and Tot Gathering, featuring a reading of Little You, to be hosted at Wood Buffalo Regional Library at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 20.
    • Little You is described as a tender board book for babies and toddlers that honours the child in everyone.
