Fire seriously damages Timberlea townhouse complex

Fire crews rescue resident trapped in basement; two taken to hospital

Regional Emergency Services responded to an early morning fire today that seriously damaged a four-unit townhouse complex in Timberlea and sent two residents to hospital.

Firefighters were called to the townhouse complex on St. Laurent Way at 2:32 a.m.

The first crews on the scene immediately entered the building, rescuing a resident who was trapped in the basement.

Flames forced firefighters to move to a defensive attack from the outside. Within a half hour, the fire was considered under control.

Two pumper crews, a ladder truck, and a command unit responded to the fire along with paramedics, RCMP and other emergency response personnel.

Firefighters will continue to monitor and extinguish any hot spots throughout the day as the fire investigation continues to determine the cause.
