Fire seriously damages Wood Buffalo neighbourhood home

A home in a Wood Buffalo neighbourhood was severely damaged by fire on Monday evening, Aug. 11.

The Fort McMurray Fire Department responded shortly after 6:30 p.m. to a report of smoke coming from a house on Wilson Drive. Crews arrived to find smoke and flames emerging from the eaves and the roof of the house.

Several units, including two pumpers and a ladder truck, along with paramedics and RCMP, responded. Fire crews remained on scene for several hours working to control the fire and ensure it was fully extinguished.

Fire investigators confirmed that smoke alarms were functioning and had alerted residents to the fire. An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.

There were no reported injuries. Unfortunately, a dog died in the fire, and the structure sustained significant fire, smoke, and water damage.
