FireSmart Vegetation Management project – Fort Chipewyan

Introduction:

FireSmart treatments will be conducted along McDermot Avenue in Fort Chipewyan to manage vegetation and mitigate wildfire risks. This project will both thin and prune trees, along with mulching of select areas. This project will remove woody debris in high-hazard forested areas totalling 15.8 ha.

All work will be completed with hand crews and mulchers. Burning of debris will also be conducted. Firewood may be available to the public as the project progresses. Please follow all signage, keep a safe distance from workers and equipment and do not enter closed areas.

Community impact

Some trail areas may be closed to residents. Please follow all signage, keep a safe distance from workers and equipment and do not enter closed areas. Smoke may be visible during burning of debris piles. 

Community Benefit

FireSmart uses preventative measures to reduce the wildfire threat to homes and communities while balancing the benefits of wildfire on the landscape. 

Firewood may be available to the public as the project progresses.
