Fort McKay Range Road and South Waterline & Sidewalk Improvement

Introduction:

Consun Contracting will resume construction of the project in July, which will continue from the intersection of RR1109 and Fort McKay Road to the McKay River bridge.

Background:

Work on the Range Road 1109 improvements and the intersection at Fort McKay and Athabasca Rd continues. Activities in this phase include the installation of new sidewalk, storm manholes, stormwater lines, sanitary sewer main and watermain from the intersection towards the new Community Centre.

Important Update:

The contractor will be upgrading the existing watermain along Fort McKay Road. To complete this work it will be required to shut down the water main for the duration of construction. Temporary water will be provided to ensure safe drinking water remains available to residents and businesses.

The contractor has placed black pipe near to residences and businesses along Fort McKay Road. Each residence and business will be connected to the temporary water to ensure drinking water is available during construction. For safety measures the pipe has been flagged with orange paint and ramps have been installed for vehicle traffic to cross over. A separate larger black pipe has also been installed parallel with the road. This pipe is to provide temporary fire protection for the duration of construction and will not be connected with businesses or homes.

The contractor’s plumber, Ram Mechanical, will be required to enter each residence and business. They will be checking the existing water service to ensure there are no leaks. Modifications may be required to connect the temporary water. If your property does not have an external hose bib, a certified plumber will need to install a connection to your property for the temporary water system. After the temporary water system is connected, a certified plumber may need to re-enter your home to turn off the main valve connected to the municipal water supply.

Once temporary water has been connected it is recommended to run a tap for approximately five minutes. This will allow water to flush through the system to the property and ensure no interruption in service. Once the water has been run, there is no further action for users. Water quality during the temporary water connection will be closely monitored and regularly tested by the contractor. Rest assured, tap water continues to meet all quality standards and remains safe to drink. Water quality is closely monitored and regularly tested to ensure no disruptions to service or pressure

Temporary water will be in place until the watermain has been replaced and is safe to reconnect users. Temporary water connections inside homes and businesses will be removed by the contractor’s plumber. The plumber will return the water piping to pre-existing condition. If it was required to install the temporary water through the wall of the home, this will also be repaired. Please be advised water meters are not being installed as part if this work
