Fort McMurray Fire Department launches recruitment for multiple positions
Training officers, firefighter-paramedics, advanced care paramedics, and Firefighter Cadet Program opportunities open
The Fort McMurray Fire Department (FMFD) is growing and has active postings for training officers, firefighter-paramedics and non-fire trained advanced care paramedics. Applications are also now being accepted for the Firefighter Cadet Program for registered paramedics who do not have fire training.
In total, more than a dozen full-time positions will be recruited this spring.
“It’s an exciting time for the department—we’re moving forward, and we’re looking for people to help us build the future,” said acting Regional Fire Chief Kelly Roberts.
Training officers needed
A priority will be to recruit more training officers to assist with the increased training needs of the service. Two positions are open.
Training officers plan, develop, coordinate and deliver comprehensive fire and medical training programs that prepare employees to safely and effectively perform fire suppression, emergency medical services, rescue operations, hazardous materials response, and other specialized disciplines. For details see the Fire Training Officer IV job posting.

Paramedic Firefighter Cadet program opportunities
We’re looking for highly skilled paramedics who want to take their careers to the next level – by becoming certified firefighters.
Multiple new recruits will be hired and paid to train as firefighters through FMFD’s Paramedic - Firefighter Cadet program - a unique, fully funded opportunity to earn your NFPA 1001 Level I and II certifications at no cost while employed. Registered paramedics that are looking to obtain firefighter training are eligible to apply for the program.

Anyone who meets the minimum requirements and is passionate about helping others should apply online soon. Students who are currently completing a post-secondary Paramedicine program may apply if they are able to write the Canadian Organization of Paramedic Regulators (COPR) exam by May 6, 2026.
Preference for the cadet program will be given to Primary Care Paramedics (PCPs) who have recently completed the Firefighter Fitness Test at the University of Alberta or at Red Deer Polytechnic.
