Fort McMurray firefighters respond to early morning house fire on Fireweed Crescent

Fort McMurray firefighters and fire investigators responded to a serious early morning fire on Fireweed Crescent. No residents were home at the time.

The call came in shortly before 5:45 a.m. reporting smoke visible from the garage of a residence. Fire crews arrived on scene within minutes, and confirmed a working structure fire.

Firefighters quickly began suppression efforts to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to nearby properties. Several units, including three pumpers and a ladder truck, along with paramedics and RCMP, responded.

One firefighter sustained injuries during the response and was transported to hospital for treatment. Reported to be in stable condition.

Fire crews remained on scene into the late morning to ensure the fire was fully extinguished and to conduct clean-up operations.

The structure is considered a complete loss. An investigation into the cause of the fire is now underway.
