Imperial Oil Site Remediation - 10316 King Street

Introduction:

Imperial Oil Limited (IOL) is conducting remediation work on land adjacent to Clearwater Drive at 10316 King Street. The work will include soil removal from the area. Activity at the site began July 2, 2025, and construction is expected to take six to eight weeks. There will be increased truck traffic during this time.

Project Details:

IOL is conducting soil remediation work at 10316 King Street. The RMWB has been working with IOL to facilitate the cleanup to allow the RMWB to proceed with the construction of a permanent flood mitigation berm.

Community Benefit:

With the permanent flood mitigation along the Clearwater River side, residents in the area will have additional protection from flood risks. Once permanent flood mitigation has been completed, this project will also reduce the need for temporary, seasonal mitigation during river breakup season.

Trail Closure
The Clearwater River trail will be closed from the Heritage Park Shipyard to Franklin Ave along Clearwater Drive from July 7 to July 14, 2025.  King street access will be closed until further notice. Closure signs will be placed in three locations – on the trail near the Heritage Shipyard, at the King Street and Clearwater Drive intersection at the Clearwater Drive and Franklin Avenue intersection. A detour around the trail closure is along Franklin Ave and Queen Street.

Special Instructions for Residents:

  • The remediation work will be phased to reduce the trail closure period.
  • Signage and detour maps will be posted in advance to guide pedestrians.
  • Updates will be provided should anything change in the construction plan.
  • There is the potential for hydrocarbon-related odours. Residents in the area are recommended to keep their windows closed.
  • Please obey all posted signage when travelling through construction zones.
  • All construction activities will follow the Community Standards Bylaw whereby:
    • A Person shall not cause or permit any construction activity on or adjacent to any Property zoned for residential use before 7:00 a.m. or after 10:00 p.m. Monday through Friday or before 9:00 a.m. or after 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, Sunday or a statutory holiday.
