RES firefighters respond to fire at Keyano College townhouse unit

Regional Emergency Services (RES) firefighters responded to an early morning fire at a Keyano College (Riedel complex) townhouse unit off Franklin/Manning Avenue on Jan. 3.

Three pumper trucks and crews, an aerial ladder unit, paramedics and other emergency personnel responded to the downtown fire scene shortly after 1:30 a.m.

Firefighters entered the building in an offensive attack on the second floor of the unit and were able to stop the fire from spreading to adjacent units.

Crews remained on the scene until about 5 a.m.

No injuries were reported, but the townhouse unit where the fire began was significantly damaged. An adjacent unit also experienced some water, smoke and other damage.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
