Review the draft Downtown Area Redevelopment Plan

Tell us what you think online or in-person starting today

Residents discussed the potential of downtown Fort McMurray with the Municipality during 2019 and 2020 engagements which supported the creation of the draft Downtown Area Redevelopment Plan (ARP). Now the public is invited to review the ARP and confirm the plan aligns with regional needs and priorities.

“The current Downtown ARP was adopted by Council in 2012. Since then, our region has seen many changes including natural disasters, pandemics, and drastically different economic realities,” says RMWB’s Supervisor of Community Development Planning, Selina Chen. “After carefully reviewing public input, we believe the proposed draft plan will resonate with the desires of the public – and we look forward to confirming that in this final phase of engagement.”

Get involved online or in-person

There are lots of ways to engage, making it easy for everyone to get involved. Take a quick poll or online survey, join us at an open house, or stop by one of our pop-up events between Apr. 3 – 30, 2023. Get started by visiting rmwb.ca/arp.

Your voice matters! Those who joined initial engagements made an impact on the draft plan simply by sharing their thoughts. Based on participant feedback and other determining factors, five categories within the plan address concerns including safety, urban design and beautification, open spaces and parks, accessible mobility networks such as sidewalks, trails, paths, and more.

 About the draft plan

The updated downtown ARP aligns with the 2022-2025 Council’s Strategic Plan supporting downtown visualization to identify and coordinate municipal investment and improvements. The Plan is required for review every 10 years. It will be used to guide future redevelopment of Fort McMurray’s downtown including land development, transportation, and public utilities such as parks and public art.
